Lords of the League (LOTL) is an RPG-enhanced fantasy football game mode that layers hero creation, character progression, and strategic resource management on top of traditional dynasty fantasy football. Each manager creates a hero with a race, path, and class, then uses stats, equipment, skills, and quests to gain advantages in weekly matchups. The official record and scoring location is lordsoftheleague.com, which serves as the source of truth for all scoring, even if a 3rd-party platform (Sleeper) is used for roster management.
Kickers and DST are NOT supported in LOTL leagues. The default season is 14 regular-season weeks with 3 rounds of playoffs. Gold and XP from matchup wins are only awarded during the regular season.
Character Creation
Each manager chooses one race and one path for their hero. Heroes start with 10 gold, 0 XP, and 0 Ability Points (AP). Your path serves as an apprenticeship and dictates which classes you can access later. Upon gaining 5 XP or completing a season (whichever comes first), you complete your apprenticeship, reach Level 1, and choose a class.
Races
LOTL offers 9 unique races, each with different starting stats and a passive racial skill. Racial passives range from raw point bonuses, to stat penalties applied to opponents, to utilities like extra draft picks. Any race can be any class, but some combinations complement each other better than others.
Paths
There are 6 Paths to choose from, each leading to 4 possible class choices. Each Path has a unique skill (costs 1 AP) and grants +1 to a specific stat upon reaching Level 1. Each class can only be accessed via two Paths, so plan your Path based on your desired class.
Classes
LOTL offers 12 unique classes, including Bard, Druid, Shadow Knight, Alchemist, Ranger, Rogue, Barbarian, Cleric, Infernist, Mentalist, Necromancer, and Paladin. At levels 1, 3, and 5 you gain a new class skill or ability. At levels 2 and 4 you add +1 to a stat of your choice.
Stats
Each hero has six stats: Athletics, Dexterity, Intellect, Shiftiness, Vigor, and Willpower. Stats have a raw value (0-30) and a calculated modifier (-5 to +10). A raw value of 10 or 11 is neutral (mod 0). Starting at 12, your mod increases by +1 for every even number. Below 10, your mod decreases by -1 for every odd number. Mods directly impact fantasy scoring for specific stat categories.
| Stat | Primary Scoring Impact |
|---|---|
| Athletics | Receiving yards bonus, tackle assists |
| Dexterity | Receptions bonus, forced fumbles/recoveries |
| Intellect | Passing yards bonus, passes defended |
| Shiftiness | Rushing yards bonus, TFL, passes defended |
| Vigor | First downs bonus, solo tackles |
| Willpower | Touchdowns bonus (rush/rec/pass), TFL |
Equipment
Heroes have 6 equipment slots: Head, Chest, Finger, Neck, Main Hand, and Off Hand. Equipment modifies raw stats and must be equipped before the first game of the week. Equipment can be purchased from The Armory with gold, traded between players (unless marked "No Trade"), or sold back for 25% of the marked price (rounded down to the nearest 5 GP). Heroes may own unequipped items but only one of each.
Gold serves a dual purpose in LOTL: it is both your currency for purchasing equipment and items AND your Free Agent Auction Budget (FAAB). All free agent pickups run through waivers with a minimum bid of $1 (1 gold). Balance your spending between roster improvements and hero equipment carefully.
Earning Gold
Gold is awarded for winning weekly matchups during the regular season using the formula: 3 + ((1+Y) x dX) GP, where Y is the level difference between you and your opponent, and X is the score margin rounded down to the nearest 5 (max 10, min 1). Winners always roll at least 1 die. Tie games award no gold. Gold can also come from quests and certain skills.
Spending Gold
| Equipment/Items | Purchase from The Armory at listed prices |
| Free Agent Pickups | Minimum $1 bid via waivers (gold = FAAB) |
| Trades | Gold may be included in trades between managers |
| Sell Back | Sell equipment to Armory for 25% of marked price (rounded down to nearest 5 GP) |
Heroes gain 1 XP per regular-season matchup win against an equal or lower-level opponent. Beating a higher-level opponent awards bonus XP equal to the level difference. For example, a Level 2 hero beating a Level 4 hero earns 3 XP (1 + 2). XP and gold are only awarded during the regular season.
Level Thresholds
| Level | XP Required | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | 5 XP (or 1 season) | Choose a class, gain class skill |
| Level 2 | 15 XP | +1 to a stat of your choice |
| Level 3 | 28 XP | New class skill/ability |
| Level 4 | 45 XP | +1 to a stat of your choice |
| Level 5 | 70 XP | New class skill/ability (max level) |
Heroes may use one activated skill per week (unless they have a multi-skill ability), provided they have enough AP. Activated skills must be declared before the first game of the week starts. AP regenerates at a rate of 1 AP per week during the season. Characters begin each season with 0 AP.
AP Caps by Level
| Level | Max AP |
|---|---|
| Level 0 (Apprenticeship) | 5 AP |
| Level 1 | 10 AP |
| Level 2 | 15 AP |
| Level 3 | 20 AP |
| Level 4 | 25 AP |
| Level 5 | 30 AP |
Consumable items (potions, etc.) may also be used once per week at skill declaration time. Unless noted otherwise, consumables are one-time use and may be traded unless marked "No Trade".
A variety of counting stats (passing yards, rushing first downs, total tackles, etc.) are tracked weekly, and heroes receive quest items tied to those stats. For example, for every 80 passing yards accumulated, you receive 1 Arrowhead. Quest items accumulate over time and can be turned in to Quest Givers in the "Town" for rewards.
| Tracking | Found in the "Hero Journal" -- stats tracked during the regular season only |
| Inventory | Quest items are stored in your "Hero Inventory" |
| Rewards | Gold, items, equipment, potions, and more -- some rewards are revealed, some are random |
| Timing | Quest items distributed with weekly matchup rewards (typically Thursday). Quests chosen before games start |
| Completion | Each quest can only be completed once |
| Losses | Losing a matchup awards a Bone, which can be traded for 10 of any Tier 1 quest item |
| Tradability | Quest and Alchemy items are NOT tradable between players |
In addition to standard commissioner duties, LOTL commissioners are responsible for the following gameplay-specific tasks:
| FAAB / Gold Sync | Update FAAB on Sleeper after gold is awarded from matchup wins |
| Purchases | Update FAAB on Sleeper after equipment/item purchases |
| Playoff Bracket | Update the playoff bracket as necessary on the 3rd-party platform |
| Matchup Scores | Update weekly matchup scores on Sleeper during playoffs |
| King's Decree | Update matchups when the reigning champion uses their decree (must be used 24+ hours before games) |
| Hero Abilities | Enforce certain abilities: stop draft for Goblin's Greenskinz Unite!, ensure only Clerics use IR slots |
| IR Slot Enforcement | IR spots may ONLY be used by Clerics (1 IR slot per Cleric level) |
LOTL supports both offense-only and IDP scoring. Kickers and DST are NOT supported. While LOTL works with any combination of starters and scoring, it has been balanced around the following recommended settings. Deviating from these may result in imbalanced gameplay.

Relegation Notes |
Each year 3 teams will be relegated from the LORDS LEAGUE to the COMMONERS LEAGUE per season, 3 teams will be promoted from the COMMONERS LEAGUE to the LORDS LEAGUE per season.
For the LORDS LEAGUE the 3 teams which do not make the playoffs, will be RELEGATED automatically the following season.
For the COMMONERS LEAGUE the 1st/2nd/3rd place winners of the playoffs will be PROMOTED to the LORDS LEAGUE the following season.
Note for Draft Picks: Draft picks will not be affected by promotion/relegation at the end of the season. (IE: If a Team wins 1st place in the COMMONERS League, they will be awarded rookie pick 1.07 in the following rookie draft off-season. Not 1.08 The same applies for Lords league teams being relegated.) |
FIRST YEAR SETUP:
Note: THIS ONLY APPLIES FOR THE FIRST YEAR (2025).
For the first year, there will be no division
importance since teams have not been promoted/relegated or assigned to the
leagues. This means every team will start evenly.
At the end of the season the top 6 standing teams will be guaranteed a spot in
the LORDS LEAGUE for the following season. The next 6 teams will play in the
consolation bracket with the winner being granted the 7th spot in the LORDS
LEAGUE the following season. All other teams will start the following season in
the COMMONERS LEAGUE.
This league is being setup to be a Relegation League. In a relegation league (similar to soccer/football leagues) the 3 lowest tier teams in the main league (LORDS LEAGUE) , will be relegated to the Relegation League (COMMONERS LEAGUE) at the end of every season. Once a team has been demoted to the relegation league, they can be promoted back to the main league each year if they qualify in the top 3 playoff finish for the year in their league. The 3 last place finish teams in the main league each year will be relegated to the lesser league for the next year. In case of a tie H2H record will be applied, followed by PF.
The main league ( LORDS LEAGUE) will consist of the
top 7 teams that finished after the year 1 startup year. The bottom 7 teams
will make up the COMMONERS LEAGUE league starting in year 2, with the top 7
teams making up the LORDS LEAGUE after year 1..
Playoffs (Check Changes/Revisions Below for first year changes for playoffs)
2025 INITIAL SEASON:
Playoffs will consist of 6 teams. The #1 and #2 seeds will be granted a 1st-round bye. Teams 3-6 will be granted a playoff spot and seeded accordingly.
The consolation bracket will be used for the 6-team consolation playoff for the remaining 1 spot in the LORDS LEAGUE the following season.
2026+ SEASON:
From 2026 and beyond, the consolation bracket will be the placeholder for the COMMONERS LEAGUE Playoffs.
There will be 4 playoff teams in the LORDS LEAGUE playoffs and 4 playoff teams in the COMMONERS League playoffs.
The 1st/2nd/3rd place winners of the COMMONERS LEAGUE Playoffs will be promoted into the LORDS League the following season.
Rookie Drafts
The rookie drafts will take place 1 weeks following the NFL draft each season. The Rookie Draft(s) will be a slow-draft 8 hour format.
The draft will consist of ONLY rookie players, excluding Free agents on waivers.
COMMISSIONERS
Our goal is to have a fair, balanced league consisting of highly active and competitive owners. Acting commissioners will act in the best interest of the league at all times.
Each commissioner accepts the following responsibilities:
- Interpret and enforce rules.
- Settle all disputes between owners.
- Preside over draft and league set up.
Removing a commissioner is a serious situation and should be considered a last resort. Should the need arise for a commissioner to be removed; a majority vote (20 votes) would be required.
CHANGES
Changes can be proposed by sending your clearly defined suggestion to one of the acting commissioners. Commissioners may elect to put the changes up to a vote at any time, if deemed necessary for the good of the league.
Traditionally, change proposals will be due one week prior to the NFL rookie draft date (not this league's draft date). After the proposal deadline and once all parties have paid their league dues, proposed rule changes will be entered by one of the acting commissioners and posted, preferable as a single poll and on the first day of the NFL draft. Members will then vote for all changes they agree with and voting will remain open for a duration of one week. The proposed changes passing their required vote minimums will get implemented. If there is a tie between similar options, the option causing the least amount of change will be implemented.
Minor changes involving league settings should be allowed if approved by the majority of the active members (14 members approve or 75% of the vote is in approval after three days). Major rule changes including roster and scoring changes will need to be approved by the clear majority (20 members must approve). If it is not clear, the acting commissioners will decide whether the change is minor or major.
Changes/Revisions to Bylaws:
- Updated language in the Tanking ByLaws to state expected owner behavior on sportsmanship in regards to lineup. Starting players will not be policed, however if an owner starts a player on IR/out/suspended/on a bye week that is a rule break and the owner will be hit with a warning on the first offense. Future offenses will be loss of picks and possible removal from the league. Keep in mind this is specifically for players who were known to be in this status, if a player gets to be out/IR/suspended the day of their game or hours beforehand and the owner could not get a replacement due to waivers already passing or having no alternative player to start, this is okay.
